Sunday School

Our Sunday School Program is designed to spiritually enrich the worship experience for children 3 to 12 years old. Sunday School begins the second Sunday after Labor Day and continues until the Sunday after Memorial Day. (There is no Sunday School on the Sunday after Christmas and Easter Sunday). Classes meet from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Each class is lead by a team of 4 volunteer teachers who take turns leading and assisting each week.

Children are grouped into classes as follows:

  • Young Saints (combined 3's and 4's)
  • Kindergarten
  • 1st Grade
  • 2nd Grade
  • Combined 3rd and 4th Grade
  • Combined 5th and 6th Grade

Young Saints through 1st Grade classes meet in the lower level classrooms and 2nd Grade through 7th Grade meet in the upper level classrooms.

We use the Rock Solid Curriculum from Cokesbury which follows a three year cycle and is designed such that the fall quarter (Sept–Nov.) is based on Old Testament stories and teachings while the winter and spring quarters are based on New Testament teachings, primarily from the Gospels. The Sunday School lessons do not follow the liturgical Gospel lessons.

Young Saints through 3rd Grade classes also get to participate in Godly Play four to five times per year which is an interactive storytelling program lead by specially trained teachers. In addition to the Rock Solid curriculum lessons, 2nd through 7th Grade classes also participate in a number of different mission projects as a means for demonstrating how the teachings from Bible can be applied to the real world.

This Years Mission Projects include:

  • A Help the Homeless Mini-Walk
  • Market Day to benefit Five Talents International
  • Making Care Packages for Soldiers
  • A Valentine's Day Visit to Sunrise Assisted Living
  • Earth Day Stewardship Activities

Other special events in Sunday School include:

  • All Saints' Day Celebration
  • Jesse Tree Advent Celebration
  • Study of the Holy Eucharist
