A concert of music by baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann, marking the 250th anniversary of his death in 1767, will be presented on Sunday, November 19 at 4:00 p.m. at Church of the Holy Comforter. The program will feature sonatas and concertos for recorder, oboe, viola da gamba, and cello, performed on period instruments by two professional groups, The Friends of Fasch and Ensemble Gaudior.

Telemann, a close contemporary of Bach and Handel, was both more prolific and more famous in his own time than either of those composers. Whereas their contemporaries considered Bach old-fashioned, Telemann was a trendsetter whose music links the contrapuntal Baroque style and the more melodic style of the Classical period.

Tom and Alexandra MacCrackenThe directors of both ensembles, Thomas and Alexandra MacCracken, are members of Holy Comforter and recognized specialists in the field of historically-informed performance of music from earlier eras.

Admission to the concert is free, though donations are welcome to support Holy Comforter's music program.
