Learn to read our Scripture lessons in church. Whether you are a new lector, a longtime lector, or considering becoming a lector, we invite you to attend this practical workshop delivered by Ruthanna Hooke. Ruthanna is an ordained Episcopal priest, and Associate Professor of Homiletics and Associate Dean of Chapel at Virginia Theological Seminary. She teaches voice, performance of biblical texts, and preaching to seminarians, clergy, and others. Her book, Transforming Preaching, explores the theological and practical implications of preaching as an embodied event.

Reading Scripture aloud in worship is a wonderful calling and a profound responsibility. The task of a lector is to read Scripture so that God's Word is heard in the reading. In order to do this well, lectors need to be open to being transformed by what they are reading. They also need to allow the Word to come alive and to speak. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to vocal and physical exercises that allow readers to communicate the Word fully and expressively.

Join us in the Ministry Center. Coffee will be available in the morning and lunch will be served at the end of the workshop. To register, please email Sherryl Dorch
