Hogwarts VBS

Join us in participating in the magic of Hogwarts, June 22–26.

Day 5! (Friday, June 26)

Welcome to our last day of virtual Hogwarts VBS. We're glad that you've joined us this week!

We're pleased to share that Austin Aufderheide of Ravenclaw was awarded yesterday's Fruit of the Spirit Award! He shared the following examples of patience from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:

  • Harry and Ron had to be patient in Snape's office while waiting for their punishment for taking the flying car to school.
  • Harry was patient with Gilderoy Lockhart when he pulled Harry aside before herbology lessons and blamed his fame for causing Harry to take the flying car.

Austin also shared that he's patient when he wants his parents attention but they're busy taking care of his little sister. Austin did an outstanding job of demonstrating patience! Well done and thank you!

We will accept additional entries through the end of the day today. We invite everyone to enjoy the following short Fruit of the Spirit video:

We will be fully embracing the Fruit of the Spirit at Hogwarts next term in 2021!

We thought you might enjoy trying this armor of God analogy at home  using two oranges and two cups of water!

Armor of God

Makes sense, doesn't it?!

We are excited to share this year's Frog Choir performance of our Hogwarts VBS Song, under the direction of Professor Flitwick!

It is also available on our school Shutterfly site at HERE (password: hogwarts123).

Special thanks to the following Senior prefects who helped with judging our House Crest Contest and the overall content of our Hogwarts Virtual VBS!

Hogwarts VBS 2020 Senior Prefects

Macie Chamberlin, (Mrs. Weasley), Emma and Samantha Payze, Elizabeth McNiff, Brandon Ward and Danny Fooks!

Professor McGonagall will now wrap things up for us in the following video:

Have a great rest of your summer!  We look forward to seeing you next  term, June 21–25, 2021 and hope that you will join us for our Diagon Alley preview, 10–11 a.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2021!

  • Please remember, No story lives unless someone wants to listen. The stories we love best do live in us forever. So whether you come back—page by page, by the big screen, or by the Church of the Holy Comforter’s VBS, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.

Day 4! (Thursday, June 25)

Thank you to everyone who participated in our House Crest Coloring Contest! The judge will be reviewing your entries today and Professor McGonagall will announce the winners Friday.

And thank you to everyone who joined the Hogwarts Frog Choir! We look forward to seeing your virtual performance in an upcoming OWL GRAM (email)!

An Update from Hogwarts Food Drive supporting Food for Others: Today is the last day to drop off your food donations to the church. Donations can be left at anytime just inside the red side door entrance to the Church Office. Our food drive supports Food for Others and will provide support for our local neighbors who need our help during these uncertain times—to keep food on their table for their families! THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY! At the end of day 3 our house cup competition is as follows. Well done!!

  • 1st place: Gryfindor
  • 2nd place: Slythern
  • 3rd place: Hufflepuff
  • 4th place: Ravenclaw

Yesterday we learned about the Fruit of the Spirit. Please pull out your Monster Bibles from last term and read Galatians 5:22–23. Today we will focus on Patience.

  • Have you ever had to wait for something? Waiting is hard. It seems like what you are waiting for will never get here! Did you know there are two ways you can wait? You can wait impatiently or you can wait patiently.
  • When you wait impatiently, you complain about how long it is taking, you whine when it takes too long, and you get upset because things aren't going your way when you want them to.
  • When you have patience, you wait without complaining.  You don't whine or try to get your way faster.  You wait quietly, trusting that God will take care of you.

In the Hogwarts Book Store recently, when Professor Gilderoy Lockhart was doing a book signing, Arthur Weasley's patience was so tested by Lucius' outrageous insults that he resorted to punching him. Patience can be so hard. Below is a prayer we can say together to ask for God's help:

"Dear God, I trust you and I know that you want me to wait patiently for your answers and your timing.  Help me to learn not to whine or cry when I don't get my way.  Help me to show others what it means to trust you by showing them how I patiently wait. Amen."

Please send an OWL GRAM (email) to vbs@holycomforter.com to share another example from The Chamber of Secrets where someone lost or kept their patience. Or send us a personal example about yourself. Be sure to include your first and last name and House. Each submission will earn 10 house points and will be considered for the Hogwarts Fruit of the Spirit Patience Award.

We are excited to share that everyone made wonderful decisions yesterday (with the help of our beloved Hagrid). You successfully arrived at Diagon Alley and are now ready to step inside of Ollivanders wand shop:

Also, learn more about Ollivanders HERE.

  • We hope that you had fun and learned some new things too! It's hard to believe that tomorrow will be our last day!

Day 3! (Wednesday, June 24)

Today is a big day! We are accepting House Crest Coloring Contest entries through the end of the day. Our judges have decided that 10 points will be awarded to the appropriate house for each contest entry! WOW!

And now it is time for today's official lesson provided by our beloved Hagrid! Please watch as he walks you through making some difficult choices between good vs evil, light vs dark, right and wrong. We wish you well on your journey and do hope that everyone successfully arrives to Diagon Alley for Thursday's lesson:

Everyone is invited to join the Hogwarts Frog Choir!

Please submit your music video to Professor Flitwick by OWL GRAM (email in muggle terms: tomwillsgw@gmail.com) or by text to 703-850-7026 by Wednesday, June 24! Professor Flitwick is well liked by all of his students! If you are not quite sure how to make the video, please reach out to him! He's here to help!

If you feel like you aren't a very good singer, it's okay. Have faith and know that God and the Choir believe in you—two powerful tools to help you to grow and learn and to do my best! Once you join the choir you can practice, grow, and learn. Watch Mrs. Weasley's Frog Choir audition video:

Today we encourage everyone to spend some time exploring and enjoying Hogwarts music. Please visit our Shutterfly site at HERE (password: hogwarts123). You can download the words to the Hogwarts VBS Song HERE.

Watch this short video HERE from Professor Trewlany sharing a Defense Against the Dark Arts Potions class on how magic can be just like the power of God to transform us!

You'll be attending Defense Against the Dark Arts classes when you arrive at Hogwarts next year. The Dean of The Dark Arts Department at Hogwarts is Professor Snape. Other professors currently teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts classes include Professor Trewlany and Professor Gilderory Lockhart.

  • We hope that you've enjoyed your time with us today and that you've learned a few things too! Hmm, after all of the singing you might be getting hungry....perhaps a favorite recipe will follow tomorrow! What do you think it will be?

Day 1! (Monday, June 22)

This summer we're focusing our lessons from the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Please start by watching this short video from Mrs. Weasley.

Spoiler alert—as Mrs. Weasley shows us in her video, it looks like one of the fun transportation methods we have to look forward to is traveling by the flying Ford Anglia car and crashing into the whomping willows! Oh my! Click HERE to listen to the Flying Car song from the original soundtrack of the movie.

Hogwarts Sorting Hat

Since we are still in the land of muggles this year, you won't be seeing the sorting hat in action. However, if you're curious, you may want to check out the online Sorting Hat Quiz HERE to see where you might be placed next year. Don't worry—it is a very short quiz!

Fun Hogwarts VBS Activity Resources:

Get into the Spirit! Sing the Hogwarts Vacation Bible School Song!

You're invited to join this year's Frog Choir directed by our very own, Professor Flitwick. We've found a way to keep the choir going while you remain in the muggle world at home this summer! Learn more about the Frog Choir HERE. Download the words to the song HERE. Or sing along with the words and music in the following video:

  • Have fun! Please check for another OWL GRAM (email) again tomorrow. We're going to learn a bit about music and will see our first professor video lesson. Who do you think it will be? Stay safe!

Please Support Hogwarts Food Drive Supporting Food for Others!
