Thursday Evening Lenten Series: Telling our Stories - Thursday, February 23, 2012

Do you think about the stories that have shaped who you are and wonder how to share them with your family and friends? Or do you have aging relatives or friends and a desire to help them share their stories? Our Lenten series will focus on Telling Our Stories and will offer a variety of practical ways to record your stories.

On Thursday, February 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s Chapel, please join us and special guest Marek Zabriskie from The Center for Biblical Studies.

Marek+ will reflect with us on how God's story shapes our stories.

Taiz� Contemplative Worship with Healing Rite - Sunday, February 26, 2012

Holy Comforter's Music Ministry sponsors monthly evening services in a contemplative style, offering a unique opportunity to decompress and prepare for the week ahead. Taizé contemplative worship is a powerful and moving combination of song and scripture featuring lush greenery, incense, candles, icons, and considerable time spent in silent meditation. This style of worship offers a wonderful opportunity for intercessory prayer: this month we will include the laying on of hands and anointing with Holy Oil, for those who wish to experience the gentle, brief, and expectant healing rite. 2012 Men's Retreat - Friday, April 20, 2012

The 2012 Holy Comforter Mens Retreat will be held April 20-22 at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, VA. Men, mark your calendars and plan to spend a relaxing, inspiring, and—dare we say—entertaining weekend. More details will be provided as we get closer, but for now, save that date.

Annual Men�s Retreat at Shrine Mont - Friday, April 20, 2012

Mark your calendars for the annual Holy Comforter Men’s Retreat to be held at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, Virginia from Friday, April 20 to Sunday, April 22, 2012. Father Rick and Father Jody will be the retreat leaders. The cost for the retreat will be $155, which covers room (double occupancy) and meals; single rooms (very limited supply) are $180. We want to extend a special invitation to new parishioners or those who have never attended the fun but enriching weekend with the men of the church. In fact, we challenge each attendee to bring along a friend, this is a great way to meet new guys and show them how great it is to relax in the mountains.

Annual Women�s Retreat at Shrine Mont - Friday, April 27, 2012

Mark your calendars now for the annual Holy Comforter Women’s Retreat, to be held at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, Virginia from Friday, April 27 to Sunday, April 29, 2012. We’re delighted to announce that the program leader will be The Rev. Blair Pogue, former Associate Rector at Holy Comforter, and the current Rector at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in St. Paul, MN. Her Retreat theme will examine the story of Mary and Martha and the sending of the seventy (Luke 10), as the group considers “Participating in God’s Life and Love for the World: Missional Spiritual Practices.” Information and registration forms will be available soon. The Retreat receives financial and organization support from the Episcopal Church Women of Holy Comforter.

Harry Potter Vacation Bible School - Monday, July 23, 2012

Registration opens on March 4 for Harry Potter Vacation Bible School 2012!

This summer there will be two VBS sessions: July 23-27 and July 30-August 3, 2012

The first session (or first term) is July 23 through 27 from 11:00 to 2:00 and will be for children who did not attend Hogwarts last year and for children under 6 years of age. The second session (or second term) is July 30 through August 3 from 11:00 to 2:00 and will be for the kids who attended Hogwarts last year. The cost is $40 per child.

Registration forms will be mailed to families who attended last year and who have contacted Lisa Arthur by email. The forms will also be available in the church office and on the Children's Ministries Table. Questions should be directed to Lisa Arthur, Director of Children's Ministries.

Summer Choir Camp - Monday, August 20, 2012

Do you know a young person who loves to sing? Holy Comforter’s Summer Choir Camp is a week of singing, musical learning, friendship, and fun. New and prospective choristers get a taste of the choir experience, including singing an anthem at a Sunday service. Returning choristers refresh and strengthen their skills and mentor younger singers. All campers enjoy relaxed music rehearsals and fun activities that build friendships, foster leadership, and motivate learning. $100 fee includes lunches, recreational activities, music education based on the Royal School of Church Music curriculum, and a cool camp t-shirt!

Campers who are not parishioners of Church of the Holy Comforter are particularly welcome.

Camp runs August 20 – 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Sunday, August 26 from 9:15 to 11:00 a.m. All children entering second grade or above are eligible. No prior music experience or training required; solid reading skills are highly recommended. Scholarships are available.
