A prayer before sharing the Thanksgiving meal:

Creator God,
We come to this table tonight, with open hearts and open hands, awaiting to be filled from the abundance of your creation. As we are filled, let us become the bread for this hungering world, let us become the wine for those who thirst, let us be and become a blessing for all in this world. And be given the strength and courage to go into this world in the name of the loving God. Amen

This prayer is an attempt to allow families to consider communion while participating in a family meal—one in which we become stuffed, instead of receiving a small piece of bread—and noticing what, if anything, feels different about a big meal from the small meal we share in church.

  • What are we thankful for this year?
  • What do you want to thank God for? Why?
  • What do you think God is thankful for?
  • What can we do between now and Christmas to bring more of God’s blessing into this world?
