Small Groups

Holy Comforter offers a number of small study groups for deepening our knowledge of Scripture and theology, especially as they relate to our daily lives:

Note: All Public Worship Services and Church-Sponsored Gatherings Canceled. Learn more.

There are 2 Flavors of Foyers: "Traditional" which meets in homes and "Dine-Out" which meets in restaurants. In both flavors of Foyer groups, participants enjoy fellowship and good food in small groups. Foyers meet once a month (at a time scheduled within each group) to share a meal and friendship. It really is a great way to get to know people. Signups are announced twice a year. Questions? Please contact Shelia Creswell.

Men's Bible Study

Tuesday mornings; 6:45–7:45 a.m. in the Ministry Center - Come early for coffee followed by our Bible study. Please contact the Rev. Jon Strand or Ray Wadlow to RSVP. We are using the Bible study guide from St. Stephen’s Richmond—found HERE—to start out. We will generally meet weekly, taking breaks for holidays and the summer.

Moms' Group

From mid-September to mid-May, please join us for coffee and fellowship on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. We will meet in the Lillian Croy Room, near the church office. Childcare will be available just across the hall in the Childcare Center. Join us as we discuss how we can build community and support among fellow Holy Comforter mothers. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Amy Britton so that we can plan appropriately for materials and childcare. Of course, last minute attendees are always welcome!

Open Circles Neighborhood Groups

Meeting times and places vary depending on the group - Open Circles are neighborhood based small groups designed to help us extend friendship to others and to support one another in the challenge of living out our faith. Open Circles meet in all parts of Northern Virginia for times of fellowship, prayer, and conversation. Many people who participate in Open Circles find them a great way to meet people at Holy Comforter, in a smaller more casual environment.

One participant said, “Over the past few years, I have wanted to get to know more Holy Comforter parishioners and feel more a part of the Church community. Open Circles has helped immeasurably with my feeling more connected and comfortable.”

All newcomers to the church are introduced to a neighborhood circle and each group is always open to new members. We would love for you to join a group! Interested in finding out more? Please contact Peggy Miller to learn which group is closest to your home.
