The Vestry

Holy Comforter’s Vestry consists of 12 persons, each elected by the congregation to serve no more than a three-year term. The terms of each group of four are staggered so that four are elected annually and four are retired. The Vestry carries out its canonical duties through an organization of the officers (senior warden and junior warden), register, secretary, treasurer, assistant treasurer, committee chairs, and members at large, with the Rector as the chair. In making a commitment to serve, each Vestry member gives their time and talents to fulfilling this role.

Vestry Vestry Person of the Month (VPOM)

Each month one Vestry member is the Vestry Person of the Month (VPOM). The role of the VPOM is to serve as the point person for our combined interaction within the Holy Comforter community and the Vestry’s canonical role and responsibility in promoting the spiritual well-being of our parish.

For the month of April 2024, the VPOM is Steve Littlewood.

Steve Littlewood and his family have been active members of the Holy Comforter family for over 25 years. His wife Patricia, who passed away in 2008, served as the Director of Children and Youth Ministries as well as sang soprano in the Adult Choir. His mother Pauline, who passed away in 2017, was a member of the Wednesday Group in the backroom at Pennywise Thrift Shop, and an active member of the Senior Saints. His son Christopher now lives in Tampa with his wife and three beautiful children. He was an active member of the Holy Comforter youth community and regularly attended Sunday School. He and his wife Katie were married at Holy Comforter, even though they were living in Chicago at the time.

Steve served on the Vestry back in 2010 and was Finance Committee Chair. Before that he was the Vestry Liaison to the Finance Committee. You can see him each Sunday in the baritone section of our wonderful Adult Choir. Steve is looking forward to the Choir’s upcoming residency at Lincoln Cathedral this summer.

On the Vestry, Steve chairs the Stewardship Committee and developed and directed the 2023–24 stewardship campaign.
