God and Country Scout Program
God and Country is a church-based program for Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts, as well as youth not involved in Scouting. It is a non-denominational Protestant program that explores our relationship with God and our faith, and is open for children in grades 1 through 12. Children who complete the program earn a religious medal, which may be worn on the Scout uniform.
There are four program levels, and young people may earn the medal in each category:
-
God and Me (grade 1-3) – Become best friends with Jesus as you build your GAME (God and Me Exploring) box.
-
God and Family (grades 4-5) – What’s a pizza have to do with family? Come explore the role of God in a healthy family.
-
God and Church (grades 6-8) – Journey with Christ and learn more about the church as you create a video or photo album of your own spiritual journey.
-
God and Life (grades 9-12) – Following the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul, explore what God may be calling you to do in your life.
Each God and Country student must work with an adult mentor who follows a parallel program of study, prayer and discussion. Ideally, this is a parent, but if parents are not able or willing to fulfill this role, we will assign a caring adult mentor to work with any Holy Comforter parishioner who is interested. Scout leaders or other adults may also serve as mentors for several Scouts in their troop and meet in small groups, and students doing the same program may work together, as well. The program is flexible, but it does take a serious commitment of time.
