Listening Hearts - A Confidential Ministry to Help you Discern God's Will

Need Help in Making a Decision in Your Life?

Are you at a critical place in your life and don't know where to turn?

Listening Hearts is a ministry available through Holy Comforter to any who seek support by prayerfully discerning God's will.  Listening Hearts, patterned after the Quaker Clearing committees, allows any person to ask for a group prayer time to discern God's will in any situation.

Those who will meet to pray with you have been trained by Listening Hearts and are commissioned to be confidential prayer partners with you, allowing you to explore God's will.  If you call the Pastoral Care office, Sue Davy will refer your request to a Listening Hearts member who will arrange a meeting with you and answer any questions you may have about the process.  You will be asked to write a brief statement outlining the issue for which you are seeking guidance.  Those who will meet with you will guard your privacy and will pray about your statement before the discernment meeting.  In your discernment session, you will meet with 3 or 4 discerners for a period of about 3 hours.  You will explain in your own words the issue and the group will pray and listen for God's leading as the issue is explored through questions and prayer.  If you want another session with the group as a follow up or to explore another issue, you may schedule another meeting.

The process for discernment through a listening hearts session is outlined in the book Listening Hearts which is available through the cloister shop at the church.  You may want to read the book prior to requesting a discernment session.   Brochures which provide more information about Listening Hearts and the discernment process are available in the Narthex.
