Camino Frances: Day 11
Posted: May 29, 2026

One of today’s major highlights included, attending the pilgrim’s mass in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
At the beginning of the pilgrims' mass, the church read out a list of the number of pilgrims received in the pilgrims' office in the last 24 hours—where they traveled from and where they began their pilgrimage.
Pictures cannot completely capture the stunning beauty of the altar. At the end of the mass we received an amazing surprise which was to see the famous Botafumeiro—the giant swinging incense burner weighing 53 kg that only swings during certain masses. Today it was privately sponsored by a group of pilgrims from Colorado. The experience was emotional and deeply moving for all of us.

After our time in the cathedral, Jon and Ann lead us in a closing service at the Igrexa de Santo Fiz de Solovia church, located not far from the cathedral. We concluded with the hymn, I come with Joy to meet my Lord. The words spoke to all of us and so accurately captured our feelings.

We ended the day with the Santiago city tour which was filled with rich history and meaning. Our tour guide, Carlos, concluded by sharing that the lesson of the Camino Way is that we are the same people and we need to work together to bring peace and harmony to the world.
We have so much to share with you and invite you all to join us for the forum immediately following the service Sunday, June 14. We’re excited to share pictures, stories, and dialogue together!
Bien Camino!
